Manhica, Mozambique
Four children lay together in the intensive care unit of Manhica’s district hospital in southern Mozambique. A large, metallic oxygen bottle administers life-saving oxygen to the first child, admitted with a diagnosis of severe pneumonia.
Curator’s Note: Pneumonia is one of the leading causes of child mortality in Africa, responsible for nearly one in five deaths in children less than five years of age.
